Midnight form Lycanroc is a generation VII Pokémon which makes its debut in Pokémon Sun/Moon for the Nintendo 3DS. It is a Rock-type Pokémon and is the final form of Rockruff. Depending on which version of the game you own Rockruff can evolve into one of two possible forms upon reaching level 25 during a specific time of day. In Pokémon Sun Rockruff can evolve into Lycanroc's Midday form during the day, and in Pokémon Moon Rockruff will evolve into Lycanroc's Midnight form during the night. Lycanroc can be both male and female, and there are no known differences between genders.

Where to find.

RockruffInterested in having your very own Lycanroc? Have no fear! Rockruff isn't too difficult to find in the wild, and can be found pretty early on. Rockruff can be found in the wild at Ten Carat Hill on Melemele Island. Keep in mind though that you cannot reach it until you clear Ilma's trial so don't count on having a Rockruff on your team before then. Lycanroc can be found in the wild at Vast Poni Canyon on Poni Island where you will be able to catch its form Rockruff cannot evolve into. This means you'll encounter its Midnight form in Pokémon Sun and its Midday form in Pokémon Moon. If you can't wait that long you can always trade with your friends.

Pokédex entries.

MIDDAY FORM ENTRIES:
Sun: Its quick movements confuse its enemies. Well equipped with claws and fangs, it also uses the sharp rocks in its mane as weapons.
Moon: When properly raised from a young age, it will become a trustworthy partner that will absolutely never betray its Trainer.

MIDNIGHT FORM ENTRIES:
Sun: The more intimidating the opponent it faces, the more this Pokémon's blood boils. It will attack with no regard for its own safety.
Moon: It goads its enemies into attacking, withstands the hits, and in return, delivers a headbutt, crushing their bones with its rocky mane.

Why I like Lycanroc.

I've had my eye on Rockruff long before I knew its name or that it was even a puppy––I thought i was a deer when I first saw it in that tiny screenshot teaser. I'm not sure when I began to like Lycanroc, but I knew I liked its Midday form better than its Midnight form, so that had a bit of influence (that and Alola Vulpix) on what version I'd buy when the game was released. Now, normally I don't use Rock-types, as I usually find them all uninteresting––with the exception of maybe a very small few. I would have to say that Lycanroc changed my mind on Rock Pokémon. They're not all that bad and are actually kinda cool. I think what made Lycanroc stand out to me is that it isn't your typical Rock-type Pokémon. While most have a rocky or rigid appearance Lycanroc doesn't have any of that. Aside from a few rocky bits found around its mane Lycanroc could easily be mistaken as another type entirely. I think it's neat to be honest. Also, I think wolves are cool. I think this has a lot to do with why its Midday form is my favorite of the two.
